Column from October 26th, 1998

Strange couple of weeks - updates at the AOR Basement web site (http://www.ifb.co.uk/~aorb/) have been delayed slightly by the arrival of a new computer here - it’s never simple to transfer material from one to another! Some good stuff will be uploaded there in the near future, however....

Scottish prog rockers Pallas should have their new album - "Beat the Drum" available in a matter of days..., and they’re playing at the Classic Rock Society in Rotherham with The Promise (who also have a second album coming) opening for them.

Few new things have been catching my attention: really like the Cold Chisel reunion album "Last Waves of Summer". Basically it’s like a mixture of Ian Moss’ and Jimmy Barnes’ solo stuff with some sassy attitude and a great production. Previously I couldn’t really admit to ever being a fan of theirs, sure they had the odd great song, but overall I always thought their albums were rather average... It’s only out in Australia at the moment, but make sure you get a copy.

The new Bruce Hornsby double CD "Spirit Trail" is also very cool - but more diverse than his previous releases, but some great songs and some excellent keyboard and piano playing - great songs all round!

Been a little worried about my musical taste lately..., anyone heard the recent albums by the Brian Setzer Orchestra? Sort of rocking swing/jump music! Have to admit I really dig them - excellent attitude and atmosphere to the songs.... The open-minded among you should check it out...
